Afternoon at leisure or enjoy an elephant back safari through the jungle of Habarana, or an afternoon Jeep safari in Minneriya National Park to observe wild elephants.

After breakfast, explore Polonnaruwa (medieval capital, 11th–13th c.) with its Sea of Parakrama, King's Council Chamber, and Gal Vihara stone Buddha statues. Climb Sigiriya Lion Rock fortress (5th-century AD citadel, painted frescoes, mirror wall, and water gardens).

Proceed to Anuradhapura, the first ancient capital. Admire the Ruwanweli Saya stupa (2nd c. BC, 300 ft diameter), Jetavanarama (370 ft), Thuparama, and the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree planted 2,250 years ago — the oldest recorded tree in the world.

After breakfast, visit the greatest cave temple in Sri Lanka at Dambulla (1st century BC, 47 ft reclining rock-cut Buddha, ancient murals). Continue through Matale to visit a fragrant spice garden.

Proceed to Kandy. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Dalada Maligawa) and attend a colorful late evening Kandyan cultural dance performance.

After breakfast, transfer to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, home to ~75 captive elephants. Watch the herds splash playfully in the Maha Oya river during bath time and see newborn calves being fed.

After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya via Ramboda Falls (80 km, 3 hours) ascending to 6,200 ft elevation. Tour a working tea factory, taste pure Ceylon black tea, and discover the colonial landmarks of 'Little England'.

After breakfast, scenic descent towards Colombo. Explore the commercial center, Old Parliament, World Trade Center towers, Pettah bazaar, and sunset over Galle Face Green promenade.
